The Valley
In the valley of the Harpeth Where waters gently flow There's a place of quiet refuge Blessed by the God we know.
As I stand beside the river And watch the waters flow I wonder about the days gone by And folks we'll never know.
For once a long, long time ago When this nation was quite new Some hardy souls set out to find A place to start anew.
The love of God was in their hearts And faith was there to guide As they left home and hearth behind And came here to abide.
They climbed the great high mountain And crossed the cool clear stream They forged the mighty river And finally found their dream.
A land so rich and fertile With forest lush and green This place was surely touched by God The most wondrous place they'd seen.
They looked out on the valley And saw the flowering fields. They offered humble thanks to God For this place he had revealed.
Nowhere else upon this earth Could there possibly ever be The peace that's in this valley That's now shared by you and me.
